New Filling Station and Supermarket Approved for Camlough After Three-Year Delay
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has approved a filling station and supermarket for Camlough in County Armagh. The Go-branded development replaces the former Riverside filling station site, operational since the 1980s.
LCC Company, based in Cookstown and operator of the Go fuel brand, submitted the initial application in March 2023. The site, described as derelict for nearly a decade, will be cleared for the new build.
Plans include a 5,000 sq ft retail unit with outside seating, staff room, office, cash office and entrance lobby with ATM. Eight petrol pumps will occupy four dual-sided bays.
The development provides 49 parking spaces, including two disabled bays, and a cycle stand. It will employ 14 staff daily.
Access to the Newry Road remains in the existing position with modifications. Consultations with DfI Roads, DfI Rivers, NI Water and Environmental Health raised no objections.
Neighbours received notification, resulting in one letter of support. Planning officers recommended approval, stating the project redevelops the site and improves visual amenity in Camlough.
An assessment confirmed need for the facilities to regenerate the vacant site and meet shopping demands in Camlough and surrounding areas.
