Sinn Féin MLA Hargey Welcomes Irish Government Rejection of ICRIR
Sinn Féin MLA Deirdre Hargey welcomed the Irish government's decision not to engage with the Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Recovery (ICRIR).
Hargey, the party's justice spokesperson, said the ICRIR lacks human rights compliance and fails to gain trust from victims and families.
She added that the Irish government's position confirms the choice of families to avoid the commission.
Hargey stated that only legacy mechanisms meeting human rights standards and providing truth and justice can address victims' needs.
The ICRIR operates in Northern Ireland to handle Troubles-related cases.
