First Minister and Deputy Host Event for Community Women on International Women's Day
First Minister Michelle O’Neill and deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly held an event at Parliament Buildings on International Women’s Day. They hosted women from voluntary groups, grassroots organisations, and local communities.
O’Neill recognised women who volunteer and support others in their communities. She noted women leading organisations and setting standards for inclusive leadership. Little-Pengelly highlighted women who organise, support, and advocate within communities.
Little-Pengelly referred to this year’s theme of giving time, skill, and compassion to benefit families and young people. The event aimed to acknowledge these contributions.
Former Northern Ireland footballer Marissa Callaghan attended the event. She spoke about opportunity, courage, and connection for women. Sophie Murray, a 17-year-old in the SistersIN programme, discussed mentors who shared time and knowledge with her.
