Tributes took place in the Stormont chamber to Bert Johnston, a councillor who served Fermanagh for 38 years. The Democratic Unionist Party member represented the former Fermanagh District Council and chaired it at one point.

West Tyrone MP Tom Buchanan spoke about Johnston's work in the county. Buchanan noted Johnston's courtesy and compassion toward those he met. He highlighted Johnston's upholstery business in Ballinamallard, known across Northern Ireland.

Buchanan described Johnston as a founding member of the Ballinamallard community association. He pointed to Johnston's commitment to his party and constituents despite early challenges.

Johnston's funeral occurred on Wednesday with a service of thanksgiving. He was buried at Sydare Cemetery near Ballinamallard. He had two children.
