A meeting on wildfire prevention for Slieve Beagh takes place on Monday March 9 from 11am to 12.30pm at the Slieve Beagh Hotel. Stakeholders aim to complete a draft plan before the next fire season.

Last year wildfires damaged hundreds of acres across the area. Slieve Beagh spans counties Fermanagh in Northern Ireland and Monaghan in the Republic of Ireland. The upland habitats face long-term recovery challenges.

Environmental specialists Marc Ruddock and Peter McEvoy will present on the local ecology and risks to landscapes. Rural Border Community Tourism will provide an update on the wildfire strategy.

Departments will review actions to support the plan. Organisers request attendance confirmations for catering. A broader community meeting follows once Peace Plus officers take up posts.
