Foster Care Demand Rises in Northern Ireland with New Virtual Recruitment Events
Northern Ireland has 3,514 children and young people in foster care, a figure increasing each year. HSC NI Foster Care requires additional carers to offer stable homes amid growing demand.
Two virtual information events target prospective carers. Scheduled for Tuesday 10 March and Thursday 12 March, the sessions profile eight children needing placements across the region. The first event runs from 7.30pm to 9pm and covers a child from the Northern area.
Julie Bell, Northern Trust Head of Service for Children’s Services, stressed the importance of providing all children a positive start regardless of background. She noted the decision to foster involves commitment but offers rewards, backed by full support.
Yvonne, an HSC NI foster carer, described focusing on daily routines, listening, school assistance and encouragement. She highlighted benefits from training, team support and family help.
Approved carers receive continuous training, financial allowances and round-the-clock social work assistance. HSC NI Foster Care runs monthly virtual drop-in sessions, one at lunchtime and one in the evening.
