Diabetes UK Calls on Fermanagh Residents for Swim22 Fundraising Challenge
Diabetes UK has issued a call to residents of County Fermanagh to participate in the Swim22 sponsored swimming challenge, running from Sunday, March 22 to Monday, June 22. The event requires participants to swim a total of 22 miles, equivalent to the distance from England to France, at their own pace in local pools or open water over 12 weeks.
Funds raised will support Diabetes UK's work, including life-saving research and care for people living with diabetes. Participants can swim alone, with family, friends, or colleagues. Alternative challenges include 'The Half' at 11 miles or 'The Double' at 44 miles for more experienced swimmers.
Rewards for participants include unique distance medals, a Swim22 tote bag, and an exclusive water bottle. There is no registration fee or minimum sponsorship requirement.
Millie Davison, 41, from Portadown, who has lived with type 1 diabetes for nearly 40 years, completed Swim22 and reported improved fitness, weight loss, and newfound enjoyment of swimming.
Tina McCrossan, National Director of Diabetes UK Northern Ireland, stated that support including swimming tips and fundraising advice will be provided, with proceeds funding research, campaigns for better care, and helpline services.
Registration is available at swim22.diabetes.org.uk.
